What is Mace?

Mace is a registered tradename for a unique brand of aerosol defense spray. It is also the name of a company.

What is Mace Defense Spray?

Mace brand defense spray is a non-lethal yet effective self defense deterrent containing OC Pepper, Tear Gas or both. It is an effective means of self defense for people to aid in personal safety and security.

Can I use Mace after the expiration date?

Like any aerosol device, over time, the unit may not spray as far as expected. You should replace your Mace Spray after the expiration date shown on the container.

What temperature should I store my Mace at?

Mace Spray should NOT be stored in an area that may exceed 125 degrees F or go below -15 degrees F. Extreme heat or cold may cause the can to leak or burst.

Can I bring my Mace Spray on an airplane?

The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) allows one Mace defense spray per traveler but only in your checked luggage. Mace is not allowed in carry-on luggage or in the passenger area.

What are the different "Mace" formulations and how do they work?

A. Triple Action is a blend of OC Pepper, CN Tear Gas and UV Ultra-Violet dye. This combination formula causes coughing, irritation and watery eyes of tear gas and the eye-shutting, "burning" effect of OC Pepper to disorient an attacker.

B. PepperGard and Pepper Mace are 10% OC Pepper solutions with UV Ultraviolet dye.

C. Pepper Foam is a 10% OC Pepper combination with UV Ultra-Violet dye that sprays in a thick foam. The foam "blindfolds" and disorients an attacker and cause the same "burning" and closing of the eyes as traditional liquid pepper sprays. The spray should be aimed at the face of an attacker.

How to dispose of Mace that expires or is empty?

Your Mace spray contains chemicals and should be disposed of in accordance with all local, state and federal laws.

Are Mace Sprays legal where I live?

Yes, Mace defense spray is legal in all 50 States, a number of cities and states have regulations pertaining to the purchase, possession and use of self defense sprays. If in doubt, contact your Police Department.

How "Hot" is my pepper spray?

OC pepper is ordinarily measured in terms of Scoville Heat Units (SHU's), or on a percentage basis. One brand of spray might be 10% 500,000 SHU while another is 5% 1,000,000 SHU.

How effective is self defense spray?

Aerosol self defense sprays are effective in most, but not all situations. Attackers under the influence of alcohol, drugs, people with special training, military or martial arts training may not be as affected as others.
