Personal Alarms

Personal Alarms - What Place Do They Have In Your Self Defense Arsenal?

Personal alarms come in many shapes and sizes. They are all relatively inexpensive and serve one purpose - to draw attention! Now the attention you require can be filled by choosing the correct alarm. You may want a simple alarm to draw attention to a potential assault situation. In this case you want a straightforward noisemaking device and all of them fit the bill in this regard, packing alarm sirens from 80 to 130 decibels. That's loud!

You may have other needs that require the drawing of your attention. You may for instance, be a traveler and want a personal alarm that doubles as a doorknob alarm, which you can hang on a door and activate. With one of these personal alarms, it is used by simply activating the alarm for personal carry, or you can use the doorknob feature. You can activate the door alarm feature by hanging one on a doorknob and flicking the switch to the on position. This allows you 20 seconds to move away while it arms itself and then any disturbance on the door handle or movement of the door itself, triggers the alarm and you'll know immediately that your door has moved. These are very useful when privacy is an issue and can be used away or in the home.

There are personal alarms for doors and windows that use a clothes pin attachment to secure them. They will operate as a normal personal alarm by pulling the activation pin and sounding the alarm, but they include that special attachment to alert you to anyone who attempts to open a secured door or window. Many parents have used this type of alarm to enforce curfews on children. Just slip the attachment in the edge of the door jam or under the door from the outside. If your child attempts to sneak out of the room after bedtime, the clip expands and triggers the alarm. Problem solved. These also work under a window and will sound if the window is opened.

There are also multi-function personal alarms with a loud alarm and a flashing strobe to draw attention to your situation. They can be used as window or door alarms as well. These are deterring the assailant in two ways. Attackers, muggers and thieves like to enjoy the privacy of quiet and dark places to perpetrate their crimes. The last thing they want is a shrill high decibel alarm and a brilliant flashing strobe light blasting away as they try to accost you. These are very good personal alarms and should be considered.

Also, there's a personal alarm with a motion sensor. You can turn the alarm off and on normally, by pulling the activation pin out for use as a straightforward personal alarm. It also includes a bright LED flashlight that may be used if needed. Topping off those features, it includes a PIR motion sensor. This is activated by sliding the sensor cover down and exposing the sensor and it's on / off switch. When turned on, it arms itself in 60 seconds and will then emit a 15 second, 100 decibel blast if anyone is caught passing in front of the sensor. Very cool and no attachments to mess around with either!

Finally, there are items that we classify as personal alarms and they are simply noise making devices. Electronic whistles are super for drawing attention and have many alternative uses. Coaches, police officers and security guards buy and use these handy 120 decibel electronic whistles. They are electronic and operate with the push of a button. We have had many requests from teachers, camp instructors, the elderly and those who are speech impaired as well. They will draw attention immediately and can even save your life in an emergency situation, like being located in a home after a medical or natural emergency. Canisters of compressed air work well also and we include these in the lineup.

There are many reasons to own a personal alarm and I'm certain that all of the uses haven't been covered here. But for a very low price (some are under $10) we recommend that you consider one of these devices. We provide a nice line of personal alarms to suit your exact and individual needs.
